Another Snap Swivel charm bracelet; Black this time.

Pictures of two charm bracelets made with Bass Fishing Snap Swivels. More charms could be added to the bracelets. I have done mine in color waves. Have 3 more to make. The charms are representative of artists from Arttechniques, ChristianPaperArtists, and Altered Art Obsession groups. I used size 10 snap swivels. The sample I saw done on the Carol Duvall show used size 5, but they looked too big to me. I used 6 swivels per bracelet (fits a 7" wrist), and added a clasp. Also added seed beads. On the red one I also used a little larger bead, but this made it a challenge to close the swivel. My already pitiful nails are now cracked down the middle of both thumbs.

I just received 6 image CDs from TwistedPapers.com, and they look to be very usable for altered art, mixed media work. I am going to play around with some different types of paper this weekend and will print some of what I come up with. Very nice people run the company. I will keep you posted!

Another Fabric and Bead ATC (Artist Trading Card). I did strip-piecing onto Peltex; buttonhole hand embroidery on the outside edge; and added beads.

Fabric & Bead ATCs

Here are my first two Fabric & Bead ATCs for the April Swap in arttechniquesatcs. My machine is old and fritzy. I enjoy handwork more than machine!

Here are pictures of the Funky Journal I made and sent to Marva in Colorado Springs. I did a strip-pieced cover; did Traci's latch-hook binding (loved doing that!), and added some hand-stitched beads by the binding. On the front cover is a heart that has tulle behind it. I put in some colorful confetti that were flowers and butterflies. There are also hand-stitched beads around the heart.I machine quilted the cover with a metallic thread. This was a fun project, both the handpainted papers inside, and the quilted cover.

ZNE Design Team April Challenge #2

This is the second art piece I made for the ZNE Design Team April Challenge. The transparency image of the young girl writing was the inspiration for this journal cover. I found in my sticker stash some old-fashioned letters which I used to spell out "journal." A definition of "reflection" was added near the spine, and some tiny collages from a scrapbook sheet were added to the bottom. I used "Tea" Distress Ink on the background and added pieces. Lastly I tied a ribbon and added an old key to the bow with an old safety pin. The background was a piece of scrapbook paper.

ZNE DESIGN #1

This is the first design I have made using the ZNE Collage Sheet I chose for our April Challenge. We are to use 1 image on our art from the chosen sheet. I chose the Little Missys sheet. The phrase (taken from a poem), says it all. She does have a sweet young face! I used a 4 x 4 canvas panel and covered it with a Basic Grey paper (yellow with stars). I then added a blue piece of scrapbook paper and the image of the girl's face. I dry-brushed the piece with white gesso, and added a bit of Nick Bantock dye ink in Chrome Yellow. I tied some sheer blue ribbon around the panel and added the gold heart with a yellow safety pin. I then found the little flowers in my stash and added them to give the right side of the piece some interest. I found the phrase in an antique poetry book, and voila`!

This drawing was done by Jonny Binkard as part of a Letterheads Outline Drawing Partner Swap. We each did a line drawing and mailed it to another person to "decorate." Jonny's art was so detailed that I just played with color. I had made a few copies to try different color waves, and this is the one I liked the best. You can't see in the scan but I used really fun gel pens by Sakura. Some had sparkles, some were a glaze which results in a slightly raised image. I also used some Sharpie pens for some of the colors. Wish the sparkles showed up! Also, her face was lightly colored and shaded with a colored pencil but that doesn't show up real well either. The limitations of scanning!

Jonny is a fantastic artist! She does the most wonderful line drawings! Thanks Jonny, for letting me post this piece on my blog.

I just found out today I am a member of the new design Team for ZNE! I am excited about it and the art we will be producing!

Easter Postcard for 2007

This is the postcard I am making for Easter this year. The background is photo paper that has Pinata alcohol inks and some of the Pearl Mixative by Ranger on top. The transparency is a rubber stamp design that I had to scan and print since the actual stamping on the transparency wasn't working out, even using Staz-on ink. I attached the two together with eyelets. Hopefully they will make it through the mail all right!

Funky Journal Pages

Here are two samples of open pages of my sample funky journal. I used my painted papers cut into a variety of sizes and handstitched 3 signatures of 4 folded pages each, making a total of 24 individual pages. I used a linen thread for bookbinding and a bookbinding needle. I ordered those items from www.dickblick.com; an art supply store.

Here a few samples of my painted paper ala Traci Bautista. What doesn't show up in the scans are the metallic copper on some and the glitter on the papers with turquoise. The paper towels also have copper and glitter on some.

Paper Towel Dyeing

I will post some samples of paper towel dyeing that I did yesterday along with some of the painted paper samples I have made. I will add a bit more to the painted papers. When I was finished with each paper towel, I laid them on top of one another so color form the towels would spread to those on top and beneath. I like how they came out. I didn't use two-ply towels, but the strong Viva brand. I wasn't able to separate them, but like the strength of the paper towel and can use this to sew or glue or whatever!

These towels and pages will show up in my Funky Journal for Arttechniques.

This is number 5 in the Lynne Perella Style series. I tried the "more layers" style of hers this time. I started with the same background as the others. I added one image and then covered it with a silhouette cutting from one of the images I used on another of the ATCs. I kept adding paint, pastels, punchinella used as a stencil (both positive and negative). Added a piece of spiral-top notebook paper; I then added another image and part of the silhouette from the same image. Again, more paint and pastels and stencilling of punchinella. I added a piece of old German text and added paint and some of my own writing on top of that. Some number stamps and decided to be done. I could have kept going and adding more and more layers. The choice is up to you!
